The best way to keep control of the dust and dirt accumulation is regular maintenance and cleaning. You can remove the fabric slat and give it to the dry cleaner. However, if you are looking for cleaning tips to clean blinds at home, you have landed on the right page. Let’s have a look at the steps.

Ways to Clean Venetian Blinds

There are several ways to clean the dust and dirt from the blinds, such as vacuuming, light cleaning, and deep cleaning. You need a vacuum cleaner and a microfiber cloth.

Steps to Deep Clean Venetian Blinds

Though Venetian blinds look stylish and functional at home and offices, the cleaning process creates a dilemma as to whether you should opt for this or not. However, the cleaning steps will give you an insight that the right cleaning guidance can make the process easy.

First, Remove the Loose Dust

Clean the dust from the surface of the blinds either with a vacuum or a microfiber cloth. Vacuum cleaners come with multiple attachments, but attach soft brush heads to vacuum cleaners to avoid scratches on slats. Move the brush head laterally while supporting the back of the slat with your hand.

Deep Clean Each Blinds

Cleaning each blind with a cloth is the easiest and most time-consuming process. Remove the stubborn dust and dirt from the blinds using a soft cloth or even old socks to deep clean each blind. All you have to do is fill a bucket with warm water, spray detergent or any cleaning solution, dip the window blind into the solution, remove excess water from the blind, and wipe each slat gently to remove grime. To ensure water drains properly from the slat, start from the top.

Clean Blinds Again With Water

Repeat the cleaning process with plain water to remove any soap residue. The best way is to spray water on the slats to remove leftover soap residue.

Wipe Your Blinds

To remove the extra moisture from the blind, wipe it with a clean cloth to avoid any mould building on the wet blinds. Check the blinds thoroughly before hanging them. Instead, place blinds inside your shower rail, but avoid keeping it on warm radiators to prevent warping.

Is It a Good Idea to Put Down Blinds for Cleaning?

If your blinds are made with aluminum or vinyl, you can bring down the blinds to clean, but ensure blinds don’t break or bend in the process of cleaning.

What should be the frequency of cleaning.

Tips to Light Clean Venetian Blinds

Regular light cleaning of blinds saves you time and effort when you deep clean them. It also reduces the frequency of deep cleaning blinds because stubborn stains take time to stick to blinds. All you have to do is grab a feather duster to clean dirt and dust from the surface of blinds. A few other tips for cleaning blinds is to keep track of all the slats to know which slats are left to clean. To avoid any confusion, hook a pin to the already-cleaned slats.

Home Remedy to Clean Stubborn Stains From Venetian Blinds

  • Take a plastic bowl and mix 50% vinegar and 50% water.
  • Put your hand in socks and dip it in the mixture.
  • Gently hold both sides of the blind slat.
  • Apart from cleaning blind slats, focus on other items as well such as handles and strings.
  • Always use fresh and original liquid to clean blinds because old liquid may leave stains.
